This dryer has a great capacity and seems very durable. However, sometimes the laundry does not completely dry on a chosen cycle, so you have to run it again. Even the 60 minute cycle.
A feature I think it lacks is showing time left on a cycle, which is helpful to know. And also, it seems one cannot set it to run a short cycle. So you have to keep track of the time if you want something to dry for anything less than 30 minutes.

I am very disappointed in the Speed Queen Dryer DR model. I purchased it on 8/25/23, with the warranty. The service man has been here about 5 times for the same problem. I have made a call this morning to have the service man back out here again, a different problem, which may be related. Waiting for service to return a call. I have the Speed Queen Washer, which I bought several years before the dryer and was very pleased. Very disappointed in this dryer.

Aspects I LIKE about my new dryer:
*It works;
*It has a 5-year warranty;
*An interior light is genius;
*It matches my washer (purchased previously).
Aspects I DON'T like about my new dryer:
*Abysmal user manual. So many instructions regarding sorting of clothes and which dry cycle to use. Anyone who has washed clothes can figure that out. What we can't figure out is not addressed in the manual.
*How to activate tone indicating cycle end? Complicated. Had to look it up on the Speed Queen website. And, why do we need a tone indicating cycle selection changes?
*Cycle end tone is too high-pitched, too brief and cannot be heard at all if laundry room door is closed. The cool-down portion of the drying cycle is then negated since we don't know the cycle has ended and clothes sit in dryer . . . requiring another cycle to get the wrinkles out!
*Why no time drying interval between 30 and 60? Sometimes 30 is too short and 60 is too long. No way to tell what stage it's at in the drying cycle, either. Frustrating.
*Read on your website that cycle selection knob should only be turned clockwise. That was indicated nowhere in the manual.
*Having to hold down the Start/Pause button for 3 seconds to cancel a cycle is insanity. How about an on/off button instead?
*Speaking of those buttons – touch one just slightly (when cleaning) and your dryer starts!
*Lint trap is difficult to clean. If there is a minimal amount of lint in the trap, scraping your fingernails along the screen is necessary to get the lint out. A removable lint trap screen (like my previous dryer had) would have been a whole lot easier to clean.
My previous dryer lasted me 25 years, partially due to its simplistic design and the fact that I use my outdoor clothesline extensively. Since this will most likely be the last dryer I purchase, I'm a bit disappointed. Love my Speed Queen washer; love/hate relationship with this dryer, though. I expected much more from Speed Queen.

Love my new Speed Queen DR5! It dries quickly, is easy to use, and feels very well built. My favorite feature is Steam Refresh-it does a great job of freshening clothes and reducing wrinkles.

We purchased this Anerican engineered and manufactured set hoping that it will provide long and reliable service even though it cost more than the competition. We have not used the steam function yet. The unit dries well (gas) and is quiet enough. We like the simple controls and the effective and easy to use lint screen.

This is a very nice dryer. I sometimes have trouble with the sensing mode on heavier items, especially items that require lower heat settings, and I'm still trying to decide if I should use sensing or just timed dry on gentle cycle.

As many other reviewers have mentioned, this dryer does not even remotely meet the high quality standards or functionality I would expect from Speed Queen. Along with the washer this was my first Speed Queen purchase. I owned my dryer one day and the motherboard had to be replaced. I would return this dryer in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity. The drying cycle is poorly designed. Auto sensing does not work well, and with the 30 or 60 minute timed cycle, clothes are either under-dried or over-dried. I have worked with the fabric settings and still not happy with the results. The buzzer for the end of cycle is extremely low. I do not have a hearing problem and cannot even hear it go off being in the next room. I have been forced to use a separate timer just so I can hear it. I had a manual button on my former dryer you could either turn on or off, and it was nice and loud. I am beyond frustrated with this unit. The dryer and the washer were highly recommended after my Maytag unit of 16 years died. For the cost of the unit I expect better performance results.

I COULD NOT LOVE THIS DRYER ANY MORE THAN I DO!!!! With the " energy efficient" dryers my clothes were never actually getting completely dry. With the speed queen, my clothes are completely dry in a short amount of time and they smell so good. I could not be happier with this purchase. I will never buy another brand of washer or dryer again. Thank you for making such an excellent product.

Upon installation, my dryer was making a grinding noise. The installer tried repositioning the dryer, which helped momentarily. He made another visit to remedy it, but to no avail. The store sent an appliance repairman a few days later. He disassembled the dryer and replaced a wheel inside, which solved the problem. The dryer works well now, however it beeps at me repeatedly if I put something on top of the dryer. To stop it I have to press the on/off button for 3 seconds. I'm concerned that this dryer might not be up to SQ standards.

I'm happy I made the switch to Speed Queen. This dryer works very well, gets hot (instead of lukewarm) is quiet, and the filter is easy to clean. Oh, and a handle that won't snap off like my old LG dryer handle did. It may be on the pricey side, but when you divide the cost by the number of times the dryer is used over the years, it works out to just a tiny amount per use.

The dryer is working fine so far but it sometimes has a squeeking noise that seems to be related to the top of the dryer not staying tight all of the time. It can usually be stopped by jiggling or pressing down on the top. We were very disappointed to learn that the Speed Queen extra warranty only covers factory issues. Not worth the expense.

I purchased this Speed Queen dryer due to having the washing machine that I purchased form Speed Queen and wanted the matching set. Needless to say, my previous dryer performed better that this unit I purchased. It takes over an hour to dry my clothes whereas my previous unit did it under an hour. I called a repair tech thinking that there might be something wrong but low and behold, he told me that everything was operating as should and found no issues w/ it.

Got it to replace my somewhat short lived Maytag. And to complement my Speed Queen wash machine that replaced an even shorter lived Maytag. I'm done throwing good money after bad.
I expect the Speed Queen to live up to its reputation of a long life. Plus, both that washer and dryer do an excellent job. My wife loves that steam option on the dryer also. Saves a lot of ironing.

My clothes were having a "burnt" smell on the normal dry setting. We changed it to a lower setting, with a timed dry. My clothes are not getting dry and the dryer shuts off before the time is up. I miss my old dryer. Would not recommend.

The quietest and most durable machine we have purchased. We replaced our Maytag Washer & Dryer that were less than 5 years old. The washer was the main problem The wash machine kept having balance issues. the first time it took the repairman 4 trips. then one year later the same issue and after 2 trips and the problem not resolved we replaced both machines with the Sedd Queens. I've been waiting several years for my old set to go out so I could purchase my set of Speed Queens! It has taken a little bit to figure out the best cycles for which type of clothes, but I am very happy with my purchase! No as fond of the dryer as we are with the washer. Dryer is noisy and doesn't give you a timed option or low, medium, high heat. Have to run everything for 60 minutes and figure out which cycle contol to use, delicate, perm press etc.

Like all Speed Products, extremely well-made, and designed to be long lasting, which makes it a great value despite being higher priced than its competitors, which really aren't. The only reason it did not get excellent, is due to some minor design features. These are that the buzzer volume is not adjustable, and there is no indication in automatic settings as to what part of the cycle it is in other than if it's heating or cooling, unlike older models with a mechanical control that moved throughout the cycle so that the user could estimate the amount of time left. Speed Queen.products, simply work as advertised, offer a great customer support, and free of gimmicks that in reality serve little purpose, other than to add costs to the machine and for marketing purposes. They do what they're designed to do, and do it well for a very long time, thus are less expensive to own in a long term.

So far I love it! It dries clothes quickly, quiet, no issues. I do wish it opened from the top. I don't like how clothes, especially socks fall out of it when I open it. That's the only change I would make.
