Died after four years

We loved it for the four years it lasted. It's a bit ridiculous that appliance repair people won't come service them, telling us they are known as "Board Busters" because the tech in them is so bad. So we tried ourselves, and yes, the boards are awful to get to, the parts are $200 for a main board and $160 for a inverter board, and those did not solve the issue. We're finished with GE.

Junk Washer, we bought our from a stand alone appliance store in May 2023. By May 2024 it stopped working because it needed a new door interlock switch. Had that repaired under warranty, then July of this year (2026) the washer malfunctioned again. Had the service tech from the store we bought it from come out to diagnose a failed "main control board". He repaired the issue for the cost of $350.00. Everything is working now, but for how long? Our previous Kenmore washer and dryer lasted 20 years without a single issue, just saying.

Water Leaking? Here's The Fix.

These units are low-end machines. I read many reviews of a leaking washer. This is common, it happened to me too. The leak is most likely coming from the hose that attaches from the soap box to the corner of the main gasket. The hose rubber is crap-ola and it corrodes with use, and eventually it will allow water to drip out on the top side connection. Unless your main door seal is defective, this is the only place that will develop a leak, and it will appeat to be dripping out the bottom of the machine. It's a low cost part too, so just replace that item. I placed a light smear of butyl caulk on the male end of connectors, this will help deal it tight when te clamps go back on.

We bought this washing machine 4 years ago. Other than the fact that it™€™s really hard to clean the rubber gasket and the washer often stinks, it™€™s been okay. Until two months ago. Two months ago, during a cycle, the door shattered into a million shards of microscopic glass all over my children™€™s clothing because my son left a small rock in his pocket. We paid $400 to buy a new door. The customer service said they really wanted to help make it right™€¦. I thought maybe with a small discount because they felt bad for making a bad product. No, they meant they wanted to help me find the replacement part to buy it. I already had, it wasn™€™t difficult to find it. There is a QR code on the washer that leads you straight to it™€¦ probably because it™€™s such a menace, so easily broken, they knew they needed to make it as easy as possible to locate the replacement parts. We should have just thrown the washer into the dump where it belongs then and bought a new one (anything but GE)..But no™€¦ we bought it and replaced the door. It came in a destroyed cardboard box with dents, holes and one end torn open. The door was only intact itself by the grace of God alone. Two days ago my son left a piece of yarn in his pocket. YARN. It wasn™€™t even a big piece. The yarn got twisted in the shorts and a shirt which then somehow tangled into the rubber gasket and pulled it away from frame™€¦I wish I had taken a picture but I was so shocked by the flooded room that I didn™€™t think to take one. I can™€™t even begin to understand why it is possible for an $800 machine to be taken down by a small piece of red yarn. Regardless, it happened, the washer was annihilated and it flooded the room. My husband untwisted the rubber gasket and reattached the inner gasket clamp. We checked and the gasket is still intact and flat. The clamp is accurately placed. We started a load of laundry and water immediately began pouring out, flooding my room again. Thankfully, I was in the room at the time so I could immediately shut off the washer and begin cleanup. Now to use this washer, we have to buy a new gasket for 102.00 and a new clamp for 7.55 and hope that it will not happen again. DO NOT buy this washer. If you live alone and have no children, maybe™€¦ but I beg you to RUN from this appliance if you have people who may put yarn, string, or even paper in their pockets. At this point I will never buy another General Electric appliance..I™€™d rather just set our clothes on fire and buy new ones every week.. Which is unfortunate because every appliance we currently have is GE. Not again.

The 10 year warranty for specific parts didn't help. I would like to buy the GE washer we had when I was a kid that went 15 years without a problem.

I am very disappointed with my GE front-load washer (model GFW650SSN2WW). Not long after owning it, I began experiencing ongoing issues where the machine starts a cycle, runs briefly, and then stops with an H2O error code. While water does enter the machine, it does not flow properly through the detergent dispenser, which prevents the washer from operating as intended. I have already taken basic troubleshooting steps, including cleaning the inlet filters and verifying water supply, but the problem persists. Based on the symptoms, this appears to be a defect or failure in the water inlet system. For a washer at this price point, I expected reliability and consistent performance. Instead, this has been frustrating and time-consuming to deal with, especially for a relatively new appliance. At this point, I would not recommend this model based on my experience.

Bad warranty

First problem with this unit is if you have to do bedding, you need to pack it full or it gets out of balance and won™€™t spin out. Then if you do have a load that won™€™t spin out, you can™€™t just spin it again because there™€™s not option for that. Just rinse and spin. Next problem is, we™€™ve had our unit since 03/23/2022, do maybe 3 loads per week and the door lock won™€™t stay locked. Now we are told it needs a new control panel at the price of over $300. Because it™€™s out of warranty. Really, you™€™d think it should last more than 4 years exceptionally when we do very little loads. Very disappointed in this

Inner glass on door exploded

I bought this in 2022 for $800. The inner glass globe exploded all over children™€™s clothes today.. I checked carefully and there was nothing except clothing and glass in the washing machine. The replacement glass is over $350..I might as well just buy a new washer, this one always smells funky anyway. So now I have a useless washing machine full of glass and a load of children™€™s clothes that has to be thrown away because they are full of tiny shards and splinters of glass. 0/10. Buy an extended warranty!!

This washer lasted all of 2.5 years before the main control board went bad. It locked up the door, which required a total disassembly of the front of the machine to remove it. After installing a new switch it buzzed constantly as the switch was trying to lock constantly if the door was shut. A myriad of error codes caused us to junk this and not put a new board in it for fear of something else (inverter or motor) being damaged. Unacceptable. Purchased a GFW655 with an extended warranty ONLY to match the dryer. I will say that the drum was spotless with no mold due to the fresh vent so that feature is appreciated.

So after doing a lot of research, I decided to choose this washing machine for a few features, the venting feature and the tumble care feature along with trying a front load for the first time. Well apparently they don't put good quality bearings in to hold up to TumbleCare and venting feature on the washing machine. I have had this washing machine for just under 4 years and the bearings have went out when the repair guy quoted for parts. The bearings plus shipping were $800. This did not include labor to put them in. You would think that they would have some type of warranty on bearings being you need them to actually spin and wash the clothes. They're just as important as what a transmission is. I paid full price for this washing machine which was with tax. It was $1,200 so now I am stuck with most likely purchasing a new washing machine after only about 3 and 1/2 years of use. I did contact GE and what they are telling me is the only thing they will offer is discounted price on the bearings, but when you include labor of 2 and 1/2 hours with two guys to install them and then the price of the bearings and shipping you're still at the price of what they are asking for this washing machine now. So it's not cost effective to fix it? I would not recommend a GE product because they obviously do not care about their customers and reputation when their product only last 3 and 1/2 years. We are a family of three so we do laundry one or two days a week and the total loads would only add up to about 6 total for the week. This is a lot less than when I used to do daycare and doing laundry every few days. And all my other washing machines lasted at least 10 years if not more. 3 and 1/2 years of using a washing machine and it being junk is not acceptable. And this is not the first repair to this washing machine. This is not the first repair to this washing machine. The flow valve that puts water to the softener tray went out about a year and a half after I had the washing machine that cost me another $100 to fix. They should call this brand the lemon brand because all you're doing is fixing it every few years.

This machine from day one has been absolutely horrible between the noise that it makes and the smell that comes from the drum like mildew we™€™ve had multiple service techs out to look at this problem and it™€™s still continues this is totally unacceptable for a machine that™€™s only a year old it was at the point where it was so loud we could only use the machine during daytime hours when people weren™€™t sleeping in the house because of how loud it was now the smell that comes from the drum is unacceptable and we are looking to purchase a new unit would not recommend this machine to anyone.

There is no way to disconnect the drain hose to occasionally clean the gunk that builds up. The front clean out filter is not a great solution either. I have to clean that out monthly, it wouldn™€™t get so nasty if the drain hose could be cleaned. Customer service suggests I pay an installer to do this maintenance. I™€™m tempted to replace this 2 yo washer with something that can be maintained properly.

What a mess. Never purchase this appliance unless you like to continually clean it and leave the door open 24/7. The supposed ™€œodor-guard™€ feature never worked, resulting in mildew odors almost immediately after a weekend™€™s use unless you leave the door open. The drain on the bottom has to be used at least once a quarter to clean out all the retained junk that the pump can™€™t expel. The same drain leaks frequently. Luckily mine is on tile, but if it was on wood, my floors would be ruined. Doesn't hold much clothing and when it does have a full load it will run continuously since sensors are off balance. I've had the machine running for hours and hours at times. Do not recommend this washer to anyone. Also the auto dispensing of the detergent isn't accurate was running out of detergent super quickly when I would fill the reservoir. I've since gone to manually adding it instead

I loved this washer at first, until 2 1/2 years in the door locked and wouldn't open the door. There were several error messages. I paid almost $350 for my home warranty company to replace the motor and circuit board. Now 9 months later it is happening again. After reading other similar reviews, I am going to replace this washer instead of pay another $350. I plan to purchase a Samsung, I have had great experiences with those. Avoid GE, they are not made to last and GE does not stand behind their product. This is a major pain, as the GE stackable dryer is fine and now I have to pay additional fees to move the dryer off the washer and replace it, as well as pay for a new installation kit. Do better GE!!!

PUMP FILTER GASKET FAIL

Washer has been great - except when I went to clean out the pump filter. The rubber gasket is coming off threads on blue filter. Water leaking all over floor and can't use washer now. Have not been able to find just the rubber gasket to purchase. From what I have read from reviews - this has been happening to others with no luck to fix or purchase.

Great unit, but cheap parts that fail

This is a great washer, but GE has cheaped out on the parts. We own two of them and both had the cheap gasket fail in the washer filter. One failed in 2 years, the other in 2.5 years, and then they leak all over the place. Do better GE, this probably costs $2 for the gasket, provide ones that will last longer. Also, you cannot buy just the gasket, you have to buy the full filter housing and gasket combined and the parts were out of stock for 6+ months. Nightmare!

Review for GFW650SSN2WW - GE Washers are TERRIBLE!

We bought this washer in February of 2022. In April of 2025 the washer had flashing white light on the interior and would run while in the off mode. This happened twice. After talking with a repair person who told us it was probably the mother board. The cost to repair wasn't worth it and the repair person told us these machines have a lot of problems. We immediately went to Lowe's and ordered a new LG Washer. I would never recommend GE appliances as they are now junk - please don't make the same mistake we did - AVOID GE Appliances. We got 3 years and 2 months out a GE washer.

Where do I even begin. Let™€™s start by suggesting GE to rename their horrible quality washer from GE Washer Ultrafresh to Ultragarbage. My GE washer is barely 3 years old and it has already given up on me 3 times! One per freaking year and to top it off GE is not standing up to their product and instead sticks it to you with the repair parts and labor. This washer door lock mechanism gave up twice already and now the control board also gave out. Not to mention, the worst GE customer service their so called ™€œConsumer Relations™€ department has provided. I get better customer service at the DMV than with them. Instead they stick it to you with ™€œhelping™€ you schedule their repair team which in this case is charging me $400 to unstack the dryer to access the washer and replace the $350 control board. All for a whopping $750 to repair this washer. Only for it to probably give up again next year since I have been getting a problem per year. And just by reading reviews I wouldn™€™t be surprised if the next thing to give up on me will be the pump. What a nice way for GE to stick it to you. GE is the worst and so far has been the only manufacturer I have bought that has not stand up to their quality and their product. They cannot bare to fix their garbage. Never again will I purchase GE product

Purchased in 2021- installed in 2022 Out of warranty by 3 years and there is a crackling sound from the back when the door closes. I called for service and they said it will be $115 but they discontinued making this model. No guarantee they can find parts for it and I might end up having to buy a new one in addition to the $115 for someone to tell me this.

Got a lemon

Very disappointed. We purchased the washer 2 1/2 years ago along with the dryer. We needed a stackable washer and dryer with a door that could be reversed. We purchased the GE washer and dryer because of their reputation for top quality appliances. Unfortunately, we must of gotten a lemon as after 2 1/2 years it would not turn on. Fortunately, we purchased an extended warranty. The service person came out and determined it needed a new "mother board". The warranty company decided it was more cost effective to replace the machine then repair. Good news, right? However, the warranty does not cover, tax, and installation fees. And since we used the warranty on the old machine, we were stuck with paying for a new 5-year warranty. Additionally, the people doing the installation can't reverse the doors so I need to have a technician come back to reverse the doors and pay additional for that. I loved the machine and believe GE to be a very reputable company, but I'm out a lot of money that I feel I shouldn't be responsible for paying

This washer did not last long. I know I bought it not that long ago. But more than 2 years old. It last 5 mins then says End and unlocks the door. Doesn™€™t finish washing nor drains the water from the unfinished cycle. Have no clue what™€™s wrong with it.

2 years, 9 months and the washer suddenly stops working. Machine will not turn on. There are only two people in our household. So the machine is not been overworked. This is unacceptable product life. The one year warranty is ridiculous.

Short Lived Machine, Terrible Customer Service

We bought this machine a year and a half ago and it has been nothing but a headache the entire time, having broken 4 times. On top of that, when it did break, it took 3-4 weeks each time for GE Appliances to have some one out to diagnosis, specially ordered the parts, and then send someone back to repair it. This last time it broke, it took a month to get it fixed and the machine lasted for literally 1.5 loads before it stopped spinning again. Cannot give this a lower rating if I wanted to and will never buy a GE product again.

The washer has had very limited use and the bearings have failed. It was installed ~18 months ago and has only used on weekends in the winter. The washer states 10 year limited warranty on parts not expected to fail but contacting customer service and trying to speak to a human is impossible.
